At the initiative of the INRAE SBEA network, NOV'AE is publishing a special issue dedicated to tools and innovations for animal welfare in experimental facilities.
In keeping with the journal's spirit, this issue, written by field practitioners, aims to share knowledge, know-how, practices, and experience, with particular attention to ethics and compliance with current standards. It aims to become a reference tool for INRAE teams, helping them implement responsible experimental projects.

This special issue is divided into three main chapters:

1) Regulatory provisions and compliance

which presents the regulations governing the use of animals for scientific purposes, as well as the national bodies responsible for overseeing their application. It also describes the resources available to support teams in complying with these regulations.

2) Animal welfare assessment and digital tools

which focuses on animal welfare assessment, presenting innovative digital tools for monitoring welfare indicators, facilitating more accurate and respectful management of animal living conditions.

3) Progress in the application of the 3Rs

which details new practices aimed at refining animal environment and experimental procedures.

NOV'AE would like to thank the editorial committee who supported this project, as well as all the contributors.
