Introduction process, approaches and tools for managing the health of stone fruits of the BRC Prunus-Juglans

Abstract

The collections of the BRC Prunus-Juglans of INRAE conserve around 2,800 accessions of stone fruits (Prunus), in the PACA and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions of France. These species, mostly obtained through vegetative propagation, are particularly vulnerable to health risks, notably viruses and bacteria. To protect the collections and permit their exploitation, two points of vigilance are ensured with the SRAL on the regulatory level: the introduction of healthy plant material, and monitoring the collections. European health regulations and phytosanitary passport, and the fruit tree certification system, are two key elements of this process. They ensure that the material introduced is as safe as possible, and the sustainable protection of the resources in the collection. Depending on the risks, isolation, control and prevention measures are decided and taken by the employees of the BRC.
