Contribution of GIS tools for mapping survey data, used as a support for animating a collective of breeders on a territory

Abstract

In the scope of CASDAR « ATOUS » project managed by the centre of interest for the Massif Central cheese, some surveys were conducted with 80 dairy farms in AOP cheese farms organised in five co-operatives associated to small territories. This work allows us to collect the entire parcels details in order to study the relations between fodder crops of the farms and the characteristics of vegetation of their permanent grasslands. First, geographic database and GIS (Geographic Information System) tool were used to make a map of RPG (Graphic Parcel Reference) islands which is the baseline of the survey. Then, this map was coupled with survey data to identify each parcel with its technical itinerary and its type of permanent grassland. Afterwards, each type of vegetation linked to some ecosystemic services characteristics allows us to make a map of these ecosystemic services used to grassland at the farm level and to the territories. These maps are educational tools that helped us to make understand ecosystemics services rendered in the eyes of farmers.
