StopGES: a decision support tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the INRAE laboratories

Abstract

INRAE is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It conducted assessments of GHG emissions (BEGES) in 2020 and then in 2023. This contributed to the implementation of action plans related to mobility, energy management, sustainable purchasing, etc.
In parallel with measures at the national level, reduction levers are also activated at other organizational and operational levels within INRAE, such as in laboratories. The DRSE (Social and Environmental Responsibility Department) has developed StopGES, a tool designed to support INRAE laboratories in their reduction process. StopGES is aspreadsheet that first identifies emission sources and then suggests suitable reduction levers, which are subsequently evaluated in terms of organization, maturity, finances, to integrate them into an action plan. Launched in 2022, StopGES has already been used by around 50 laboratories, support units, and farm units at INRAE.
