TERO. Creation of a procedure for the management of potting soil waste at the INRAE Occitanie-Toulouse center
Abstract
France has adopted a national low-carbon strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. INRAE is taking part in this collective reflection, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% relative to 2019. The INRAE Occitanie-Toulouse campus is a multi-disciplinary research center including laboratories working in the field of plant biology, implying a significant use of potting soils and pots for growing plants. All of this is thrown away at the end of the experiment, so that the household waste of these laboratories mainly contains cultivation waste, whether by weight or volume. The main aim of the TERO project is to reduce the amount of cultivation waste disposed of in household waste by creating a new management procedure, and thus significantly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with its collection and incineration.
