POURPRÉE: an educational project linking research themes, training, and communication within an experimental unit

Abstract

The INRAE Experimental Unit of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Prée aims to support farms using marshes (wetlands) in their agroecological transition, relying in particular on our mixed crop-livestock farm in organic agriculture. Biodiversity (wild and domestic) is at the heart of our research programs. We have aligned this scientific approach with an eco-responsible working posture for many years. To make a link between these two aspects of research and communicate on this point with the local population (adults and children), we proposed setting up a “biodiversity” educational trail around our buildings, for guided tours. Relying on ecological developments and the naturalist and ecological skills of the unit’s agents. The project incubator proposed by the INRAE’s general
directorate in 2022 and 2023 allowed us to make arrangements favorable to biodiversity, acquire educational materials (binoculars, etc.) and produce educational documents (discovery booklet, films). Since September 2023 we welcomed and guided 156 children and 94 adults through the educational trail.`
