Social dialogue at the heart of CSR

Abstract

Social dialogue within an institute such as INRAE refers to all negotiations, consultations and exchanges of information between executive management and staff. It takes place within an institutional and democratic framework with dedicated bodies, such as social boards of directors for institutions or specialised boards (in centres), specialised training in health, safety and working conditions, and unit councils. The administration ensures fairness, the sustainability of decisions taken and compliance with regulations. Thematic working groups are also organised, as needed, at all levels, both by units and centres and by scientific departments and research support departments. All of the institute's stakeholders involved in the bodies and working groups, whether elected by their peers or appointed by the administration, are committed to working for the benefit of the institute's project and the staff who work there. Staff and administration representatives are trained, as far as possible together, in order to share a common framework, promote mutual understanding and social cohesion, and stimulate social dialogue, which is essential to the smooth running of the institute. In the rest of this article, two elected representatives have agreed to share their vision and commitment to social dialogue.
