Publication Terms and Conditions
1. Definitions
Author: the person who created the work published on the Website and who holds the intellectual property rights to it.
Contributor: a person who contributed to the article as a co-author or translator but who is not a registered User.
Terms and Conditions of Use (TCU): terms and conditions under which the Journal offers content and services on the Website and the conditions under which Users agree to use the Website. The TCU also include references to the privacy policy, intellectual property, cookies, applicable law, etc.
Reviewer: users with a specific role related to peer review of texts submitted by Authors.
The Site: refers to the website https://revue-novae.fr
Users: any person using the Site. Users do not need a username and password to access the content.
Registered Users: Users who have created an account. They are assigned a role, either by default (reader), by themselves (Author or reviewer), or by the Journal's managers, which will determine the type of Site features they have access to. The roles are detailed in the ‘notices relating to the protection of personal data’.
Username and password: the username and password allow access to additional services depending on the role defined by the Journal. The password is confidential and the User is solely responsible for it.
Open access: free and permanent availability of scientific publications.
Work: creation produced by a person, its Author, published on the Site.
Privacy policy: information relating to the data collected by the Journal.
Journal: this electronic periodical.
Terms and Conditions of Publication: These are the contractual commitments of the Journal and the Author concerning, in particular, the terms and conditions for the publication of a Work, its distribution, and the distribution licence for Users. They are available under the heading ‘For Authors’ on the home page.
2. Purpose
The purpose of these Terms and Conditions of Publication is to specify the conditions under which an Author may submit an article to the Journal, as well as the consequences thereof, in particular the granting of a distribution licence to the Journal.
They define the rights and obligations of the parties and are intended to ensure that the Author fully understands what they are committing to when submitting an article (Work) online.
All information relating to publication guidelines, the evaluation process and other elements to be taken into account before submission can be found under the heading ‘For Authors’ on the Journal's home page.
3. Website publisher
The Website is published by INRAE, under the responsibility of the NOV'AE journal.

4. Acceptance and validity of these Terms and Conditions of Publication
Acceptance of these Terms and Conditions of Publication is done electronically (checkbox) when submitting an article in the Author's secure area.
The process to be followed by the Author is as follows:
Step 1: Get started
- Choose the language of the Work
- Tick the items on the ‘submission checklist’
- Confirm that they agree to distribute their Work under the Creative Commons Attribution-International 4.0 licence proposed by these Terms and Conditions of Publication (see Articles 5.2 and 5.3).
- Confirm their acceptance of the Site's Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions of Use.
- Save these items to continue.
Step 2: Transfer the submission
- Upload the file and save
- Save and continue
Step 3: Enter the metadata
- Title, subtitle, summary of the Work, rights, keywords, etc.
Step 4: Confirm the submission
A message will appear stating that "Your submission is complete and ready to be sent. You can perform a final check and correct any information you have entered before continuing. It is important to remember that submitting any article implies the author's agreement to the Terms and Conditions of Publication, the Privacy Policy and the General Terms and Conditions of the Site. When you are ready, click on “Complete submission”.
When you click on “Complete submission”, a new window will block the browser and ask you to confirm a second time that you are sure you have finished entering your information and that you wish to confirm the submission.
Step 5: Next steps
The Author is informed that the submission process is complete and that the Journal has been notified of this submission. An editor will contact them once the submission has been reviewed.
For the time being, from their secure space, they can:
- Review this submission
- Create a new submission
- Return to their
These steps are necessary before the present Terms and Conditions of Publication can be validated and definitively accepted.
A confirmation email will be sent to the Author at the end of step 4. This email summarises the submission that has been made and includes a hyperlink to the content of these Terms and Conditions, which are always available on the Website (under the heading ‘For Authors’), so that the Author can review what they have agreed to. Any Author who does not agree with these terms and conditions, even partially, must not tick the box accepting the terms and conditions.
Acceptance must be made personally by the Author and cannot be delegated to another person acting on their behalf.
Before final publication, the Author may revise the fields filled in the submission file, change the file containing the Work and follow all exchanges concerning their file.
5. Author's Commitment
5.1 Content Guarantee
The person submitting content to the Journal undertakes that their article is an original work that does not infringe on any pre-existing creation. They guarantee that they are the author of this content. They indemnify the Journal against any claims or evictions relating to the proposed work.
In the case of a collaboratively written article, the Author undertakes to obtain the written consent of their co-authors before agreeing to these Terms and Conditions. The Publisher shall not be held liable in the event of a breach of this obligation.
5.2 Distribution licence granted to the Journal
The Author or his/her representative authorises the Journal to distribute his/her Work under the Creative Commons Attribution-International 4.0 licence.
He/she grants the Journal the non-exclusive right to distribute the article in digital and printed form worldwide, and in particular:
- under the right of representation: the right to communicate the document to the public by any means allowing for printed and online distribution, as well as any other digital distribution method known or unknown at this time;
- under the right of reproduction;
- the right to reproduce the document in printed form and on any type of digital media known or unknown at this time;
- the right to authorise Internet users of the site to download and print the document posted online;
- under the right of adaptation: the right to modify the initial electronic format of the document in order to ensure its archiving, storage and electronic distribution in accordance with changing technical constraints.
The licence is valid for the entire legal term of protection of the Work.
This authorisation does not entail any transfer of rights from the Author, who retains ownership thereof.
In accordance with Article L. 122-7-1 of the Intellectual Property Code, which states that ‘the author is free to make his works available to the public free of charge’, the works are made available online free of charge and will not give rise to any remuneration for the Author.
It is expressly stated that this free access is provided solely for the purpose of promoting scientific research and for the public to access it free of charge.
5.3. Licence for the benefit of Website Users
The Journal expressly draws the attention of Authors and Users to the fact that all documents published on the website are protected by copyright, in accordance with the Intellectual Property Code.
Authors grant Users the right to use, distribute and reproduce all or part of the article, provided that the original work is correctly cited.
The User must indicate the source of the Work in any citation by mentioning:
- the title of the Work,
- the name(s) of the Author(s),
- the year of publication,
- the name of the Journal,
- the DOI of the article.
The User may also create a hyperlink to the document published on the Website.
6.2. Commitment to publication
The Journal undertakes to publish the Work within a reasonable time frame.
6.3. Terms and conditions of use
The Work will be published on the Website. By creating a User account, the Author (User registered in this role) declares that they have read and agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions of Use.

7. Applicable law and competent jurisdiction
Any use of this site is subject to French law.
Any dispute relating to the use of this site or its content falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Paris.
